Tree Planting 101: Part 5 – Watering
The roots of newly planted trees need water to grow and establish – so it is important to water trees a special way after planting to encourage root growth. While regular surface watering might be best suited for garden plants, a young tree will benefit more from a good soaking once or twice a week.
Watering tips:
- After planting a tree, it is important to water the soil with a relatively low water pressure.
- Water the tree more frequently in the fall season and during warm spells
- Giving the tree a good soaking once or twice a week is better than more regular surface watering. This will ensure that the roots receive the moisture they need to pass nutrients to the tree.
